ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lewis University's women's tennis team bounced back with a 5-2 win over Lindenwood on Friday afternoon at the Lindenwood Tennis Courts in St. Charles, Mo. The Flyers improve to 7-4, 2-2 GLVC while the Lions drop to 5-4, 1-2 GLVC.
Lewis took the opening point of the match as it won all three doubles matches.
Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Garcia de Orta) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) opened the match with a 6-2 win over Paula Sostres Pico and Trang Tran 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) and
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) followed with a 6-2 win over Minna Kahn and Natalia Cordero at No. 2 doubles.
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) completed the doubles sweep defeating Juliana Kulczynski and Eveline Nilsson 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Pedroso began the singles portion of the dual with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tran at No. 1 singles. Vujanic followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Pico at No. 3 singles. Smith secured the win for the Flyers with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Dana Minakova at No. 2 singles. Reisch put Lewis ahead 5-0 with her 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 win over Kulczynski at No. 4 singles. Sueflohn dropped a hard-fought three set match to Kahn 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 9-11 at No. 5 singles. Davis dropped a 6-3, 6-0 contest to Cordero at No. 6 singles.
The Flyers continue their road trip on Saturday as they take on Maryville at 11 a.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo.
