Flyers Defeat Saints 14-0 In Series Finale To Take Series

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' baseball team defeated Maryville 14-0 in seven innings on Sunday afternoon to win the series finale and took three of the four games against the Saints to win the series. The Flyers improve to 18-14, 16-12 GLVC while the Saints drop to 13-19, 11-13 GLVC.

Lewis sent 12 batters to the plate in the third inning scoring nine runs on seven hits. Anthony Cavalieri (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) drove in Michael Alt (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) with the first run with a single to shallow right. Michael O'Brien (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) followed with a double down the left field line to bring home Julian Everett (Frankfort, Ill/Lincoln Way East). Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) made it 3-0 with a single back up the middle scoring O'Brien.

Two batters later Austin Tittle (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) made it 6-0 with a three-run homer to left. Max Warren (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) singled and Alt walked setting up Everett's three-run homer to center.

The Flyers added to its lead in the fifth inning as Anthony Rios (Lemont, Ill./St. Laurence) led off the inning with a home run to left center.

Lewis put the game away with four runs on four hits in the sixth inning. Rios drove in O'Brien and Jackson Dvorak (New Lenox, Ill./Providence Catholic) with a double to right. Barry would score on a wild pitch and later in the inning Alt singled to left scoring Rios.

The Flyers had 15 hits in the contest with the three through eight spots in the lineup going 12-for-21 with two home runs, eight RBI and 10 runs scored. O'Brien, Dvorak, Barry, Rios, Tittle and Warren each had two hits on the day. Rios, Tittle and Everett drove in three runs apiece.

Michael Sclafani (Oak Brook, Ill./Montini Catholic) pitched a complete game shutout allowing five hits with one strikeout and no walks to improve to 3-1 on the season. He got 10 outs in the air and nine outs on the ground.

Lewis returns to the diamond on Wednesday (April 28) hosting Parkside in a non-conference game beginning at 2 p.m. at Brennan Field.
