ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's tennis team had its four-match winning streak snapped with a 4-3 loss at Southern Indiana on Sunday at the USI Tennis Courts in Evansville, Ind. The Flyers drop to 9-6, 4-2 GLVC while the Screaming Eagles improve to 8-6, 3-3 GLVC.
Lewis dropped two of the three doubles matches to begin the match allowing Southern Indiana to grab the opening point.
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) and
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia) picked up the lone doubles win as they defeated Yahor Bahdanovich and Spencer Blandford 7-5 at No. 1 doubles.
The Flyers won the first two singles matches as
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) knocked off Parker Collignon 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Ramirez Mejia beat Bahdanovich 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles.
The Screaming Eagles retook the lead as Lucas Sakamaki defeated
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Blandford beat
Daniel Sowa (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
Ambrozic tied the match at three rallying to defeat Marvin Kromer 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. The match came down to No. 6 singles and USI's Dylan Brown beat
Earl Lim (/) 6-1, 6-0 to secure the win for the Screaming Eagles.
Lewis qualified for the GLVC Tournament beginning this Friday (April 30) and will be hosted at Lewis. The pairings for the conference tournament will be announced on Monday (April 26).
