ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's tennis team defeated Southern Indiana in its regular season finale on Sunday at the USI Tennis Courts in Evansville, Ind. The Flyers improve to 8-5, 3-3 GLVC while the Screaming Eagles finish their season with a record of 3-12, 0-6 GLVC.
Lewis won all three doubles matches to take the opening point of the dual.
Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Garcia de Orta) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) knocked off Lauren Rowe and Rachel McCorkle 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) followed with a 6-2 win over Kylie Skepnek and Lindsey McCord at No. 3 doubles.
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) and
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) completed the doubles sweep with a 7-5 win over Lauryn Thompson and Chloe McIsaac 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action the Flyers won four of the six contests with Smith defeating McCorkle, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, Vujanic beat McIsaac 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, Reisch knocked off Thompson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and Sueflohn defeated Skepnek 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
Lewis qualified for the GLVC Tournament beginning this Friday (April 30) and will be hosted at Lewis. The pairings for the conference tournament will be announced on Monday (April 26).
