Flyers Snap Four-Game Losing Streak With 18-7 Win Over Quincy

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's lacrosse team scored a season-high 18 goals in its 18-7 win over Quincy on Saturday afternoon at Lewis Stadium. With the win the Flyers improve to 3-5 on the season and snap a four-game losing streak while the Hawks fall to 0-8 on the season.

Lewis seized control scoring six goals in the opening quarter with Thomas Purfeerst (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) recording a hat trick and Micah Daigle (Erie, Pa./McDowell) added two more.

Quincy scored early in the second quarter to cut the lead to five but back-to-back goals from Nate McLean (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) and Drew Dingle (Verona, Wis./Verona) gave the Flyers an 8-1 lead. The Hawks scored two more times to trim the lead to five, but Lewis closed the half strong scoring three more times to take an 11-3 lead at halftime.

The Hawks scored three of the first four goals of the third quarter to cut the Flyer lead to 12-6 but that would be the closest they got as Lewis scored three times in the span of 4:21 to take a nine-goal lead into the final 15 minutes.

McLean, Drew Kask (Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) and Keith Parkman II (San Diego, Calif./Serra) each scored in the fourth quarter to give the Flyers their largest lead of the game at 18-6 with 4:06 left to play.

Quincy got a goal from Jayme Brain in the final two minutes for the final margin.

Lewis outshot the Hawks 62-20 in the contest and put 34 of those attempts on goal. McLean and Purfeerst had four goals apiece while Daigle added three and Kask finished with two. Sam Kern (Delano, Minn./Delano) scooped up six ground balls and won three face-offs. Kai George (New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada/New Westminster Secondary School) caused three turnovers in the contest.

The Flyers were scheduled to head to Grand Rapids, Mich., to take on Davenport on Tuesday (April 6) but the game has been postponed due to COVID within the Davenport program. Lewis will now travel to Kansas City next Saturday to take on No. 20 Rockhurst at 12 p.m.
