Miners Snap Flyers Five-Game Winning Streak

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- Lewis University men's soccer team had its five-game winning streak snapped in a 3-2 loss against Missouri S&T on Friday evening at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers drop to 6-5-1 while the Miners improve to 4-7-1, both teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

Both teams were aggressive in the first half of play, but the Flyers were on the board first as Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler) tallied his sixth goal of the season coming off an assist from Seth Dilworth (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West). The Miners were seeking to get the equalizer shortly after, but the attempt was saved by Will Maurice (Minooka, Ill./Minooka).

In the 30th minute, Jason Jorgensen tied things up for the Miners as he scored with an assist by Julien Denis. Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) and Matthew Beaulieu (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) registered back-to-back shots on a counterattack but both attempts were stopped by the Miner defense.

Lewis regained the lead early in the second half as Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) tallied the second Flyer goal coming off a pass from Baumann. Dario Rosell tried to tie the match once again, but his attempt was unsuccessful.

In the 84th minute, Josh Wobbe scored the late equalizer for the Miners. Two minutes after, Denis scored the game-winning goal for the Miners coming off an assist from Sean Perryman.

The Flyers outshot the Miners, 12-9, but the Miners had more shots on goal, 5-4. Mwanga led the Flyers with five attempts, followed by Baumann with three. The Miners were led by Wobbe, who recorded two attempts. Lewis played more aggressively as they had more fouls, 10-5, and two yellow cards against the Miners' one.

The Flyers host Maryville in their final home game of the season on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
