ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- Lewis University women's soccer team shutout the Missouri S&T Miners, 2-0, on Friday afternoon at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers improve to 4-6-2 while the Miners fell to 2-9-1, both teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) got things going for Lewis as she scored her first goal of the season following an assist from Maddie Levins (Elmhurst, Ill./York), five minutes into the game. Shortly after, Elisa Aguilar (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) managed to get open but her attempt went wide right.

Both teams went back and forth for the rest of the half but the Flyers were able to keep Missouri S&T scoreless. The Flyers outshot the Miners after 45 minutes of play, 7-4, having four shots on target.

Coming out of the break, the Miners were seeking the equalizer as they tallied three consecutive attempts but were unsuccessful. The Flyers answered back as Havelka-Vanderplow took another shot, but the attempt was saved by Kristin Steins.

In the 76th minute, Lewis doubled up on Missouri S&T and sealed their fourth win of the season after Courtney Sengstock (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) scored in the top right corner, coming off an assist from Olivia Zediker (Rockford, Ill./Guilford).

Lewis tallied more shots than Missouri S&T throughout the match, 14-8, and had eight shots on target. Vanderplow and Aguilar led the Flyers with four attempts each while Ally Hasken and Paige Jackson led the Miners with two attempts each.
