CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Lewis' baseball recorded season-highs in runs (28) and hits (26) in its 28-2 win at Roosevelt on Saturday afternoon at Ozinga Field in Crestwood, Ill. The Flyers win their fifth straight and improve to 20-14 while the Lakers drop to 17-16.
Lewis sent 17 batters to the plate in the first inning scoring 13 runs on nine hits.
Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) had two hits in the inning driving in four runs with a two-run double in his first at-bat and hit a two-run homer in his second at-bat of the inning.
Michael O'Brien (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) added a two-run homer and
Joe Preusser (Orland Park, Ill./Brother Rice) hit a two-run triple to right center.
Davey Fitzpatrick (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East),
Michael Alt (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly),
Julian Everett (Frankfort, Ill/Lincoln Way East) and
Patrick Keaty (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) drove in a run each in the inning as well.
The Flyers added to its lead scoring four more runs in the second. Alt drove in his second run of the game with a single to left, O'Brien hit a sac fly to center scoring Preusser,
Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) singled to drive in Alt and Cantelo doubled to center scoring Barry.
Lewis added two more runs in the third, six in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Roosevelt scored their runs in the first and third innings.
14 different Flyers had a hit in the contest with Alt, Cantelo, Keaty and
Dalton Crowder (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East) leading the way with three hits apiece. Cantelo drove in a career-high five runs while Keaty and O'Brien drove in four runs each.
Jake Karaba (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) got the start allowing two runs on two hits with seven strikeouts in three innings pitched.
Michael Sclafani (Oak Brook, Ill./Montini Catholic) pitched the fourth and fifth innings allowing just two hits and striking out four to pick up the win and improve to 4-1.
Matt Piento (Indian Head Park, Ill./Lyons) allowed a hit and two walks in the sixth and then
Cam Lander (Morris, Ill./Coal City) pitched the final inning allowing two hits but struck out a batter.
The Flyers and Lakers meet again on Sunday this time at Brennan Field at 12 p.m.
