ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' baseball team sent its seniors out in style hitting five home runs in its 18-3 win over Roosevelt on Sunday afternoon at Brennan Field. The Flyers, winners of six straight, improve to 21-14 while the Lakers drop to 17-17.
Roosevelt took an early lead with a run in the first inning on a groundout to short from Tyler Suchy scoring Daniel Gutierrez.
Lewis responded in its half of the first sending 11 batters to the plate scoring seven runs on seven hits.
Anthony Rios (Lemont, Ill./St. Laurence) led off the game with a double to left and scored on
Anthony Cavalieri's (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) single. Two pitches later
Austin Tittle (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) hit the first of his two home runs in the game to put the Flyers on top.
Jackson Dvorak (New Lenox, Ill./Providence Catholic) followed with a double, stole third and scored on
Max Warren's (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) single. Warren scored later in the inning on
Troy Hajdukovic's (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) double to left to make it 5-1. Rios drove in the final two runs of the inning hitting a ground-rule double to drive in Hajdukovic and
Patrick Keaty (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin).
The Flyers opened the second inning hitting back-to-back-back homers in the span of 10 pitches. Tittle led off the inning with his second home run in as many innings. Dvorak followed with a home run and Warren hit one a 2-2 pitch to make it 10-1.
Keaty and Hajdukovic hit back-to-back doubles to make it 11-1. Hajdukovic scored on a wild pitch and Garrow scored on a sacrifice fly to right off the bat of Rios. Cavalieri scored the final run of the inning when Tittle's fly ball to center was dropped by the center fielder.
Roosevelt got a two-run homer from Gutierrez to cut the Flyer lead to 14-3 in the top of the fifth.
Lewis added four more runs in its half of the fifth.
Zach Teegen (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) hit a two-run homer scoring
Davey Fitzpatrick (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East).
Nick Serr (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) walked with the bases loaded to drive in Keaty and Hajdukovic scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring.
The Flyers had 16 hits in the contest with nine different players recording a hit. Warren led the charge recording three hits while Rios, Tittle, Dvorak, Keaty and Hajdukovic all had two hits apiece. Rios and Tittle drove in three runs each while Warren, Teegen and Hajdukovic had two RBI apiece.
Jonathon Hanscom (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) picked up the win allowing a run on one hit with one strikeout and one walk to improve to 4-3.
Mike Stevens (Homer Glen, Ill./) and
Tyler Talbot (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) each pitched 1.2 innings,
Matt Verdun (Homer Glen, Ill./St. Rita) threw an inning and
AJ Casmer (Lisle, Ill./Lisle) finished it off throwing 0.2 innings.
Lewis plays its final series of the regular season this weekend as it travels to Indianapolis to take on the Greyhounds in the first of four on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. (CDT).
