INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Lewis University's baseball team dropped the opener of its four-game series 4-3 to the University of Indianapolis on Friday afternoon at Greyhound Park in Indianapolis, Ind. Game two of the doubleheader was tied at two heading into the top of the sixth inning when it was suspended due to darkness and will be finished before the start of Saturday's regularly scheduled doubleheader.

UIndy (20-17, 18-11 GLVC) jumped on top in the third inning on a two-run homer off the bat of Trey Smith.

The Flyers (21-15, 16-13 GLVC) were held without a hit until Jackson Dvorak's (New Lenox, Ill./Providence Catholic) single in the fifth inning.

Lewis got on the board in the seventh inning. Anthony Cavalieri (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) led off the inning with a single. After a fly out to center. Dvorak doubled to center sending Cavalieri to third. A throwing error on the play allowed Cavalieri to score and sent Dvorak to third. The Flyers couldn't get him home though as a strikeout and a fly out ended the inning.

Lewis took the lead in the ninth. Joe Preusser (Orland Park, Ill./Brother Rice) led off the inning with a single to left, went to second on Cavalieri's sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher and scored on Michael O'Brien's (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) two-run homer to left. Dvorak followed with his third hit of the game but the Flyers were unable to add to their lead.

The Greyhounds won the game in the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back singles from Caleb Vaughn and Will Smithey off of Jake Lotz (Palos Hills, Ill./St. Laurence).

Lewis outhit the Hounds 6-3 in the contest and was led by Dvorak with three hits while Preusser, Cavalieri and O'Brien had a hit apiece. Brad Littleton (Coal City, Ill./) pitched a gem allowing two runs on one hit with six strikeouts but walked five in the contest to pick up the no decision. Lotz suffered the loss allowing two runs on two hits with a walk, a strikeout and a hit by pitch to fall to 0-4 on the season.

The Flyers and UIndy play the final two games of their four-game series on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. (CDT).
