Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) finished as the runner-up in the No. 2 singles draw at the Wisconsin-Whitewater (UWW) Warhawk Fall Invite on Saturday at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex.
Trifunovic defeated Olivet Nazarene's Juan Banuls 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) in his opening match on Friday afternoon. He defeated Whitewater's Cole Lindwall 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 in the semifinal on Saturday morning before losing to Chicago State's Alejandra Martinez in the championship match 6-3, 6-1.
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) finished third in the No. 2 singles draw defeating Olivet Nazarene's Brian Ayala 6-3, 6-1 on Friday afternoon. He lost to Martinez in the semifinal 6-3, 6-0 and then rallied to defeat Lindwall in the third-place match 3-6, 6-3, 11-9.
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) defeated teammate
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) in the seventh-place match of the No. 1 singles draw on Saturday 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. Lusti lost his opening match on Friday to Whitewater's John Zakowski 6-1, 6-4. He lost his consolation semifinal match to Olivet Nazarene's Alex Verdu 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-10.
Ramirez Mejia dropped his opening match on Friday to Chicago State's Mike Delebois 6-7 (2-7), 0-6. In his consolation semifinal match on Saturday morning he fell to Lake Forest's Oleksi Vyshyvanuk 4-6, 0-6.
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canda) finished eighth in the No. 3 singles draw. He lost his opening match to Chicago State's Sam Kaplan 6-0, 6-2 on Friday. Zoranovic lost a hard-fought consolation semifinal match to Olivet Nazarene's Bryce Ranchero 7-6 (7-6), 7-5 and then fell to Lake Forest's Daniel Tulchinskiy 6-2, 6-3.
Lusti and Trifunovic teamed up to defeat Olivet Nazerene's Alex Verdu and Francisco Faria 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the number one doubles draw. The duo lost in the semifinals to Chicago State's Kaplan and Nicolas Palacio 6-1 but rebounded to defeat UW-Whitewater's Zakowski and Alex Gray 7-6 (7-6) in the third-place match.
Trifunovic and Wierzbicki lost to Gray and Zakowski in the quarterfinals 6-4 but came back to defeat Ayala and Carlo Cota in the consolation semifinals 6-0. The duo fell to Verdu and Faria 6-3 in the fifth-place match.
The Flyers return to the courts on Friday, Sept. 24 when they travel to Allendale, Mich., for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional.
