ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's soccer team weathered two storms on Friday evening to extend its season opening unbeaten streak to four with a scoreless draw against 15th ranked McKendree at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers are now 3-0-1, 1-0-1 GLVC while the Bearcats are 3-0-2, 1-0-1 GLVC.
Neither side was able to muster many quality scoring chances in the first 45 minutes but McKendree had a pair of shots on goal and six overall to Lewis' four shots and one on goal.
The Bearcats grabbed the momentum early in the second half and held the possession for a majority of the half taking seven shots but
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) stood tall making three saves including one on a breakaway by Morgan Cervera in the 72nd minute that she deflected wide for a corner kick.
The Flyers had a chance at the game-winner 3:57 into the first overtime but
Elisa Aguilar's (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) shot from the top of the box was saved by Abby Tucker.
McKendree had two chances in the first overtime but both went wide.
The game was delayed with 2:48 left in the first overtime period by weather and was delayed for approximately 30 minutes.
The Bearcats had the only chance in the second overtime period with Emma Knoebel's shot missing wide in the 108th minute.
McKendree finished with a 16-5 advantage in shots including 5-2 in shots on goal. The Bearcats also had the advantage in corner kicks 11-3.
Clark made a season-high five saves in goal for Lewis.
The Flyers conclude their three-game homestand on Sunday hosting Missouri-St. Louis at 12 p.m. The Tritons suffered a 2-1 defeat at Illinois Springfield on Friday evening.
