ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Nathaniel Campbell's (Palm Bay, Fla./Heritage) goal in the 74th minute broke a 2-2 tie and lifted Lewis' men's soccer team to a 3-2 season opening win at Purdue Northwest on Thursday afternoon at Dowling Park in Hammond, Ind. The Flyers were outshot 13-7 in the contest but all seven of their shots were on goal compared to four shots on goal for the Pride.

Lewis scored the game's first goal in the 33rd minute. Jayson Iniguez (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport Township) found Aris Oluwatuyi (Lagos, Nigeria/The International Sports Academy) at the edge of the six-yard box and Oluwatuyi scored into the lower left corner of the goal.

The Flyers extended their lead in the 43rd minute as Dmitri Huitron scored from the left side of the penalty area into the lower right corner with an assist from Justin Darlage (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) to send Lewis into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Purdue Northwest outshot Lewis 5-4 in the first 45 minutes but all four of the Flyer shots were on target compared to one for the Pride.

Purdue Northwest tied the game with two goals in the span of 2:12 early in the second half. Ryan Moran got the Pride on the board with a goal from just outside the six-yard box with an assist from Isiah Nieves. Nieves tied the game in the 60th minute scoring from about 15 yards out with an assist from Arnas Miskinis.

Campbell broke the deadlock with 16:51 remaining scoring from the center of the penalty box into the upper left corner with an assist from Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan).

Purdue Northwest had a chance to tie the game in the final five minutes but Miskinis missed high and to the right.

The Pride had an 8-3 advantage in shots in the second half with each side putting three on target.

Lewis opens its home schedule this Sunday afternoon (Sept. 5) hosting former GLVC rival Parkside at 2:30 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.
