INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Lewis University's women's soccer team fell to 24th ranked Indianapolis 2-1 on Friday evening at Key Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. The Flyers drop to 4-1-1, 2-1-1 GLVC while the Greyhounds improve to 5-1, 3-1 GLVC.
UIndy jumped out to the early lead with a goal 16 seconds into the contest on Kiki Sauceda's seventh goal of the season with an assist from Uma Yadav.
Lewis evened the game in the 25th minute when
Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) found the back of the net for the third time this season with an assist from
Melisa Hadzic (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South).
The Hounds regained the lead shortly before halftime on a goal from Maria Herrero into the lower left corner.
UIndy outshot the Flyers 7-2 in the first 45 minutes and put three of those on goal compared to one for Lewis. Each side had two corner kicks and the Flyers were whistled for nine fouls to five for the Greyhounds.
Lewis had a couple of chances midway through the second half as
Cameron Sengstock (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) had a shot sail wide left in the 64th minute and
Maddie Levins (Elmhurst, Ill./York) had an attempt blocked in the 65th minute.
UIndy had a couple of chances as well with
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) making a save on an attempt from Yadav in the 67th minute and Herrero missed a shot wide right with 22:35 remaining.
Hadzic had a chance at the equalizer in the 81st minute but her shot was wide right.
The Hounds finished the contest with a 14-5 advantage in shots and put five of those on goal compared to one for the Flyers. UIndy had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Lewis looks to bounce back on Sunday is it travels to Evansville, Ind., to take on Southern Indiana at 2:30 p.m.
