EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Lewis University's women's soccer team picked up a point with a scoreless draw against Southern Indiana at Strassweg Field on Sunday afternoon in Evansville, Ind. The Flyers are now 4-1-2, 2-1-2 GLVC while the Screaming Eagles are 2-3-2, 0-3-1 GLVC.
Southern Indiana controlled play in the opening half outshooting Lewis 5-1 and put three of those on goal forcing
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) to make three saves to keep the game scoreless. The Screaming Eagles also had four corner kicks to one for the Flyers.
USI still outshot Lewis in the second half 8-5 but the Flyers put three of theirs on goal compared to two for the Screaming Eagles.
Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) had a chance to break the deadlock in the 67th minute but her attempt was saved by Zoe Lintner.
Miranda Nirchi (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) had a chance in the 74th minute but her shot was also saved by Lintner.
Lewis had two chances in the final 10 minutes at the game-winner.
Elisa Aguilar's (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) shot in the 81st minute was saved and
Cameron Sengstock's (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) attempt in the 85th minute was blocked.
USI had the only chances in the first overtime period taking three shots and putting one of those on goal. Avery Schone had a chance 10 seconds into OT but Clark was their to make the save.
The Flyers had the only scoring chance in the second overtime as
Alex Dennis' (Tinley Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew) shot in the 104th minute was stopped by Lintner.
The Screaming Eagles finished the contest with a 16-7 advantage in shots and 6-4 in shots on goal. USI took 11 corner kicks in the contest to one for Lewis.
Clark made a season-high six saves in goal for her fourth shutout of the season.
The Flyers conclude their three-match road trip traveling to Springfield, Ill., to take on Illinois Springfield on Friday (Oct. 1) at 5 p.m.
