MALIBU, Calif. – The fifth ranked Pepperdine men's volleyball team recorded a hitting percentage of .352 (45 kills, 13 errors, 91 attacks) as the host Waves swept seventh ranked Lewis University, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21 in a non-conference match-up at Firestone Fieldhouse on Friday (Jan. 28) evening.
Pepperdine hit .364 (16-4-33) in the opening set and .625 (17-2-24) in the middle stanza to earn the win. The Flyers finished the contest hitting .213 with 31 kills against 14 errors in 80 chances. Lewis hit .364 (11-3-22) in the middle frame.
The Waves improve to 4-1 while the Flyers fall to 4-2.
Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) led Lewis with 11 kills in the contest while
Michael Sack (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence) added eight and
Kevin Kauling (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished with six kills. Kauling also added 14 assists,
Tyler Morgan (Dike, Iowa/New Hartford) finished with seven blocks and
Jason Gibbs (Bellaire, Texas/Bellarie) had a match-high nine digs.
Jaylen Jasper led Pepperdine with 15 kills while Jacob Steele added 12 kills. Bryce Dvorak had a match-high 36 assists, Andersen Fuller and Austin Wilmot each had three blocks and Spencer Wickens added five digs.
The Flyers are back in action on Saturday (Jan. 29), as they take on second ranked UCLA at the John Wooden Center in Los Angeles.
