No. 13 Lewis Women's Volleyball Falls In Five To No. 25 Quincy Saturday

QUINCY, Ill. -- The No. 13 Lewis University women's volleyball team fell to No. 25 Quincy 3-2 Saturday (Oct. 1) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest.

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: No. 25 Quincy 25, No. 13 Lewis 20

  • Four straight Hawk points gave them a 15-9 lead before a kill by Avery Holubar (Bargersville, Ind./Center Grove) stopped the run.
  • The Holubar kill started a three-point rally for the Flyers as Ray and Stefanski added kills to get to within 15-12.
  • Lewis added four more points in a row to get to within one at 17-16.
  • Quincy scored five of the final seven points to take the first set.

SECOND SET: No. 25 Quincy 25, No. 13 Lewis 14

  • Lewis jumped out to a 4-1 advantage as Stefanski had a pair of kills in the run.
  • Quincy had two three-point runs to take a 9-7 lead before a kill from Schlechte cut the lead to one.
  • A five-point Hawk run pulled them ahead 17-11 and they added seven of the final eight points of the set.

THIRD SET: No. 13 Lewis 25, No. 25 Quincy 22

  • The Flyers scored four straight points on a pair of kills apiece from Taki and Schlechte to take a 10-5 lead.
  • Lewis added a five point run to go ahead 17-9 led by a pair of kills by Stefanski.
  • The Hawks came storming back with six straight points, but Ray stopped the run with a pair of kills to give the Flyers a 19-16 lead.
  • Quincy tied the match at 22-22, but the Flyers scored the final three points on a service error, bad set and kill by Taki to win the set.

FOURTH SET: No. 13 Lewis 25, No. 25 Quincy 22

  • Back-to-back kills from Schlehte gave the Flyers an 11-7 advantage.
  • Quincy scored five straight points to lead 13-12, but the Flyers answered with three straight points to regain a 15-13 lead.
  • After a Quincy point the Flyers added three more points to take an 18-14 lead.
  • The Hawks evened the score at 21-21 before the Flyers pulled ahead 23-21 on an attack error and ace from Stenman. 
  • Quincy followed with a point and Lewis finished the set with a bet set from the Hawks and an ace from Schlechte.

FIFTH SET: No. 25 Quincy 15, No. 13 Lewis 12

  • Quincy scored four straight points to pull ahead 6-2.
  • The Flyers got to within 8-6 on a pair of kills by Stefanski.
  • Back-to-back Lewis points got it to within one at 12-11 on kills from Schlechte and Stefanski.
  • A kill by Stefanski got the Flyers to within two at 14-12 before the Hawks won the match with a kill.

Final Score: No. 25 Quincy 3, No. 13 Lewis 2

  • No. 13 Lewis will be back in action Friday, October 7 as the Flyers host Truman State starting at 6 p.m. CT.
