ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The No. 20 Lewis University women's volleyball team defeated William Jewell 3-1 Saturday (Oct. 8) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest for the Play for Premmies Game at Neil Carey Arena.

Funds raised at today's game will go to help a group called The Nest Postpartum. They also work with NICU families and are biased out of Champaign, IL. Their goal is to help change the narrative about the NICU experience—from a story that's too often about struggle and isolation to one that focuses on

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: No. 20 Lewis 25, William Jewell 10
- Lewis started the match by winning three straight points all kills by Van Loo to make it 3-0.
- William Jewell cut it down to 8-5 Lewis then the Flyers scored four straight after a pair of kills by Taki and Van Loo to make it 12-5.
- The Flyers had complete control of the entire first set then won the opening set after Fornetti recorded back-to-back service aces.
SECOND SET: William Jewell 25, No. 20 Lewis 22
- William Jewell bounced back and won the second set which went back-and-forth.
- Lewis went ahead 5-2 after a kill by Stenman then the Cardinals tied it.
- Stefanski and Ray gave the Flyers back the lead after back-to-back kills.
- Lewis led 13-8 midway through the second set when Taki recorded a block then Stenman extended the lead out to 18-11 after a kill.
- The Cardinals then surged right back in the set scoring eight out of the next nine points.
- The Flyers quickly regained the lead back at 22-20 after back-to-back kills by Schlechte and Taki.
- WJC won the second set after scoring five unanswered to tie it up at one a piece.
THIRD SET: No. 20 Lewis 25, William Jewell 15
- Lewis responded nicely in the third set to take a 2-1 advantage.
- The Flyers went up 3-0 after a service ace by Zeiser then later went ahead 8-2 after a block by Stefanski and Ray.
- The closest the Cardinals got was 16-11 in favor of Lewis midway through the third set.
- Taki closed out the third set after recording a few key kills down the stretch.
FOURTH SET: No. 20 Lewis 25, William Jewell 20
- Both teams scored eight points a piece to start the fourth set.
- The Flyers rallied for three points in a row after a kill by Schlechte made it 11-8.
- William Jewell responded with four in a row of their own to grab an 12-11 advantage.
- Lewis bounced back and grabbed a 19-15 lead after a kill by Mikah Freppon (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) then the Cardinals quickly tied it right back up at 19-all.
- The Flyers ended the match on a 6-1 rally capped off by a block by Taki and Schlechte to win the fourth set 25-20 and win the match 3-1.
Final Score: No. 20 Lewis 3, William Jewell 1
