Men's Soccer Defeats Truman State Behind Three First Half Goals Sunday

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The Lewis University men's soccer team defeated Truman State, 3-0, at Bulldog Soccer Park Sunday (Oct. 9). Godwin Asore (Kumasi, Ghana/Putnam Science Academy), Zahkar Shkidchenko (Kiev, Ukraine/), Christian Perez all scored goals in the first half to lead the Flyers to victory.

HALF BREAKDOWN
First Half: Lewis 3, Truman State 0 
  • Asore went on the attack and found the back of the net in the seventh minute to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead. 
  • Truman State quickly looked to respond in the eighth minute but Doppelhofer was right there with the save. 
  • Bogers looked to double the lead for the Flyers in the 13th minute but the Bulldogs' goalie saved it.
  • The Bulldogs went on the attack again in the 18th minute but Doppelhofer recorded the save. 
  • Shkidchenko doubled the Flyer lead after recording a goal which made it 2-0 in the 21st minute.
  • Perez put the exclamation point in the match a minute later to make it 3-0. 
  • TSU tried to cut into the deficit in the 27th minute but it was also saved. 
  • Moments later, the Bulldogs tried again in the 31st and 38th minutes but they were unsuccessful. 
     
Second Half: Lewis 0, Truman State 0 
  • Justin Darlage (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) looked to make it 4-0 in the 51st minute but his shot attempt was saved. 
  • TSU had a few other shot attempts but they were off target.  
  • Maxiliano Ibarra (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) tried to extend the lead out to 4-0 late in the match in the 84th minute but it was saved. 
Final Score: Lewis 3, Truman State 0

Lewis returns to action Friday, October 14 as the Flyers host Southwest Baptist to take on the Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.
