EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The No. 4 seed Lewis women's volleyball team defeated No. 5 seed Missouri S&T, 3-2, in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Quarterfinals, with a balanced team effort at Eastside Centre Thursday (Nov. 10).

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: Missouri S&T 25, Lewis 22
- Both teams went back and forth to start the first set then Van Loo recorded a kill to make it 12-9 Lewis.
- Missouri S&T rallied for four points in a row to grab a 13-12 lead.
- It would go back and forth before the Flyers jumped out to an 21-18 advantage after a service ace by Stenman.
- The Miners used a 7-1 rally to pull ahead and win the opening set.
SECOND SET: Lewis 25, Missouri S&T 19
- Lewis jumped out to an early 7-2 lead after a kill by Schlechte.
- Missouri S&T bounced back and cut it down to one (8-7 Lewis).
- The Flyers scored six straight unanswered points capped off by a kill by Farah Taki (North Aurora, Ill./West Aurora).
- Moments later, Bella Ray (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic) made it 19-9 after recording a kill.
- The Miners looked to come back in the set but Lewis came out on top 25-19 after Taki picked up a kill.
THIRD SET: Lewis 25, Missouri S&T 21
- The Miners went up 5-2 early in the third set before Lewis rallied for three straight capped off by a kill by Stenman.
- Lewis jumped out to a 14-9 lead midway through the set before S&T used an 9-2 advantage to go up 18-16.
- The Flyers would rally for five straight to go up 22-20 after a block by Van Loo and Taki which helped lead Lewis to a 25-21 victory.
FOURTH SET: Missouri S&T 25, Lewis 21
- Missouri S&T took an early 7-3 lead in the fourth set.
- Stenman got the Flyers back in the set to cut it down to one (8-7) after recording a service ace.
- The Miners went ahead 13-9 moments later then a block by Stenman and Ray made it back down to one (15-14 S&T).
- Lewis tied it at 20-all late in the fourth set before S&T scored the next five out of six points to win 25-21.
FIFTH SET: Lewis 15, Missouri S&T 9
- Both teams each scored three points each to start the fifth set before Lewis recorded four unanswered capped off by a block by Stenman and Ray.
- S&T responded and cut it back down to one a couple of times making it 8-7 and 10-9 but that was the closest the Miners got.
- Lewis scored the last six points of the match capped off by a kill by Schlechte to win the match.
Final Score: Lewis 3, Missouri S&T 2
