QUINCY, Ill. -- The Lewis University women's basketball team had a balanced team effort against Quincy to defeat the Hawks at Pepsi Arena, 73-64, Monday (Nov. 28).
Tara Gugliuzza (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) led the way with a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

SUMMARY
Lewis jumped out to an early 9-4 lead after a layup by Hilber. Moments later, the Flyers jumped out to a 14-6 lead with four minutes left in the opening period.
Quincy would respond with seven unanswered points to end the first quarter. The Hawks cut it down to one (14-13) as the first quarter came to an end.
Both teams traded a few baskets to start the second quarter before Hilber made a layup and knocked down a three-pointer to make it 23-18 in favor of Lewis with 5:50 to go in the first half. The Hawks responded with five straight points of their own then eventually grabbing a 26-25 lead with 2:11 remaining.
Lily Courier (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) converted on a huge and-one with 47 seconds left before halftime which seemed to carry momentum for the Flyers. This basket and the free throw made it 30-28 and that score would hold until the break.
Schmidt started the second half for Lewis with a three-pointer which made it 33-28. In the next five minutes, the Flyers went on a 16-9 run which gave Lewis a 49-37 with under five minutes left in the third period.
Quincy looked to bounce back after going on a 12-2 run the final four minutes to pull within two (51-49). The Hawks quickly tied the contest at 51-all to start the final frame.
Lewis responded with seven straight which was started by a layup from
Stephanie Hart (Geneva, Ill./Geneva). Quincy would respond with an ensuing three to make it 58-54 but that was the closest QU got the rest of the way.
The Flyers held on to win by nine (73-64) after hitting clutch free throws.
