Lewis Men's Basketball Battles; Falls to (RV) Parkside Monday

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Lewis University men's basketball team put up a battle against Parkside but was unable to come away with the victory in a non-conference contest as the Rangers picked up the 74-66 win Monday.

SUMMARY
Both teams traded early buckets making it 9-all at the 14:33 mark in the first half. Parkside scored five unanswered points to go up 14-9 a few minutes later in the half. 

Anthony Sayles and Beau Frericks (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) knocked down three-pointers for Lewis to make it 18-17 in favor of the Rangers with 9:05 left before the break. Moments later, Sayles gave the Flyers a 22-20 lead after knocking one down from three-point land and a dunk.

Utku Kurtulus (Istanbul, Turkey/First Love Christian Academy) tied the game up at 27-27 with 4:20 left before halftime before Parkside went on a 7-0 run the next two minutes for a 34-27 advantage. Elijah Williams (Lawrenceville, Ga./Illinois State) ended the first half with a basket for Lewis which made it 34-29 in favor of the Rangers.

Lewis opened up the second half with back-to-back baskets by Frericks and Hill which made it 34-33 Parkside. The Rangers responded with a basket before Lewis grabbed the 37-36 lead with 16:53 left in the game after buckets by Frericks and Sahinkaya.

Both teams would go back-and-forth the next eight minutes before Hill made it 53-50 with a slam dunk. The Rangers responded with a 11-1 run to give them a 61-54 lead with 4:48 to play in the game.

Hill tried to put the Flyers back in the game after nailing a three-pointer but Parkside responded right back with five straight points from Rasheed Bello including a three-point play with 3:32 remaining which made it 66-57.

The closest the Flyers would get the rest of the way is six points. Parkside would go on to win the contest 74-66.

Lewis will be back in action Saturday, December 31 as the Flyers travel to Big Rapids, Michigan to take on Ferris State for a non-conference showdown starting at noon CT.
