Lewis Men’s Basketball Drops Non Conference Contest to Ferris State Saturday

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Lewis University men's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest on the road against Ferris State, 97-73, at Jim Wink Arena, Saturday (Dec. 31).

SUMMARY
Ferris State jumped out to a early 6-2 lead before Frericks knocked down a three-pointer and a basket by Utku Kurtulus (Istanbul, Turkey/First Love Christian Academy) made it 7-6. FS bounced back and went on a 10-1 run to grab a 16-8 lead.

Lewis scored eight unanswered of their own to tie the contest after a pair of threes by Frericks and a layup by Sayles with 12:15 to go in the first half. The Bulldogs responded with six straight of their own for a 22-16 advantage. 

Vanderheydt and Frericks made back-to-back baskets to keep it a one-score game (22-20) with 9:03 left in the half. Moments later, FS expanded their lead to 43-36 with 3:02 left to go before the break. 

Vanderheydt looked to get the Flyers right back in the game after making back-to-back layups which made it 43-40 with two minutes left in the half. Kirciman made a layup with 50 seconds left which made it 46-44 Ferris. 

Frericks and Sahinkaya both made baskets to start the second half to give the Flyers a 48-47 lead. FS was able to respond with a pair of baskets themselves for a 51-48 lead. 

Frericks made a three-pointer to tie the contest at 59 a piece with 12:53 to play in the game but that was the last time the game was tied. The Bulldogs scored 11 unanswered points which gave Ferris a 70-59 lead with 9:06 left in the game. 

Lewis looked to bounce back after scoring four straight but Ferris responded right back. The Bulldogs closed out the game on a run to win it 97-73.
