ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University men's basketball team snapped a four-game skid as the Flyers defeated Lake Superior State, 74-53, at Neil Carey Arena, Wednesday (Jan. 4).

SUMMARY
Lewis jumped out to a 6-2 lead after a basket by Hill before Lake Superior State went on a 13-2 run to go up 15-8 with 11:12 to go in the first half. Lewis was able to respond and go on a 10-3 run capped off by a three-pointer by Vlado Zrnic (Greendale, Wis./Don Bosco Prep) which tied the game at 18-all.
The Lakers bounced back and scored six unanswered to regain a six-point lead. Lewis got a huge three from Colin Kenney (Michigan City, Ind./Furman) and a three-point play by Ford made it 28-26 Lewis with under a minute to play. Lake Superior State responded with a bucket of their own to tie it up at 28-all going to the break.
Cem Kirciman (Bursa, Turkey/Wisconsin-Green Bay) started the second half with a basket for Lewis then Lake Superior State responded with a three-pointer before the Flyers went on a 12-2 run to go up 42-33. Lewis would hold onto a sizable lead the rest of the way as the Flyers held off various rallies by the Lakers.
LSSU cut the deficit down to 10 (54-44) with 6:39 to play before Lewis went on a 10-1 tear for a 64-45 lead. Lewis ended the game with back-to-back baskets by Utku Kurtulus (Istanbul, Turkey/First Love Christian Academy) and Trashawn Wilson (Douglas, Ga./Gulf Coast CC) which gave the Flyers a 74-53 victory.
