ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-1 win over Quincy on Friday at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill.
The Flyers swept the doubles competition as
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) and
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) opened doubles play with a 6-2 win over Samuele Contestabile and Sebastian Gomez at No. 1 doubles.
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) and
Daniel Sowa (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) knocked off Brenden Everhart and Ivan Mimica 6-3 in the third doubles contest to clinch the doubles point for Lewis.
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) completed the sweep defeating Ettore Pavesi and Zach Willing at No. 2 doubles 7-5.
The Flyers won the first four singles matches to secure the victory as Lusti rallied from a set down to defeat Pavesi at No. 2 singles 1-6, 6-0, 6-4, Ramirez Mejia beat Contestabile 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in number one singles play, Zoranovic knocked off Mimica 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 6 singles and Ambrozic swept Francisco Nique 6-4, 6-3 at number four singles to give Lewis a 5-0 lead.
Quincy (0-3) won its lone match at number three singles as Everhart rallied for a three set win over Trifunovic 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 and then
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) closed out the match with a three set win over Willing 6-1, 4-6, 10-1 in No. 5 singles play.
Lewis returns to the courts next Friday (Feb. 18) hosting Michigan Tech at 8:30 a.m. at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill.
