PLAINFIELD, Ill. – Lewis University's men's tennis team moved to 3-0 with a 5-2 win over Michigan Tech on Friday at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill. The Huskies are now 0-1 on the season.
The Flyers secured the first point of the match by winning two of the three doubles contests.
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) and
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) defeated Vitor Jordao and Eli Pinnoo 6-3 at No. 1 doubles while
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) and
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) knocked off Andrew Freel and Ambarish Rao 6-4 in number three doubles play. Lewis' No. 2 doubles team of
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) lost to Siddesh Mahadeshwar and Ricardo Nunez 6-1.
In singles action the Flyers won four of the six contests with Ramirez Mejia defeating Adam Fenjiro in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 at number one singles. Lusti won at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-4), Ambrozic defeated Pinnoo 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Zoranovic defeated Mahadeshwar in the final singles match 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.
Nikolai Prosjanykyov beat Trifunovic 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 singles and Freel knocked off Wierzbicki 7-5, 6-2 in No. 5 singles play.
Lewis returns to the courts on Saturday (Feb. 19) as it travels to the University of Chicago to take on the Maroons in dual scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
