ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season is it was defeated by the University of Chicago 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at the XS Tennis Center in Chicago, Ill. The Flyers are 3-1 on the season while the Maroons improve to 5-0.
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) and
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) teamed up to defeat Bailey Forgus and Biren Reddy 8-7 (7-3) at No. 3 doubles for Lewis' only point in the doubles portion of the match.
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) and
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) were defeated by Christian Alshon and Derek Hsieh 8-4 at No. 1 doubles and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) fell to Arjun Asokumar and Andrei Leonov 8-5 in No. 2 doubles action.
Trifunovic knocked off Alex Guzhva in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles to pick up the lone point in the singles competition. Ramirez Mejia was beaten by Asokumar 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Lusti won the opening set 6-2 but lost the final two sets to Hsieh 3-6, 2-6 at No. 2 singles. Ambrozic was defeated in straight sets by Alshon 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Wierzbicki lost to Leonov 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Zoranovic was beaten by Shramay Dhawan 6-3, 6-1 in the final singles match of the match.
The Flyers return to the courts on Friday (Feb. 25) as they travel to Canton, Ohio, to take on Walsh at 5 p.m. (CST).
