NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Lewis University's men's tennis team edged Walsh 4-3 on Friday evening at the North Canton Raquet Club in North Canton, Ohio. The Flyers improve to 4-1 on the season while the Cavaliers fall to 6-6.
Lewis won the first two doubles matches to take the opening point of the contest as
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) and
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) defeated Jakob Riglewski and Alex M. Puigmarti 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. The number two team of
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) beat Joao Campos and Pedro Campos 6-2 and the third doubles match between
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) and
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) and Blas Ruiz and Luis Hernandez was called with Wierzbicki and Zornovic leading 2-0.
Walsh tied the score as Riglewski defeated Ramirez Mejia 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles but the Flyers would win the next three singles match to seal the victory. Lusti defeated J. Campos 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, Ambrozic knocked off Hernandez 6-4, 6-0 and Trifunovic outlasted Ruiz 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1) at No. 4 singles. Wierzbicki was defeated by Dawson Drummond 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-10 in the fifth singles match and Zoranovic fell to P. Campos 2-6, 2-6 in the final singles competition.
Lewis returns to the courts on Saturday as they travel to Tiffin to take on the Dragons.
