ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's tennis team won eight of its nine matches in its 6-1 win over Quincy on Friday at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill. The Flyers move to 2-0 while the Hawks fall to 2-1.
Lewis secured the first point of the competition sweeping the doubles matches.
Sage Hills (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) and
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) won at number three doubles over Paula Martinez and Kadrin Ismaslova 6-1 while
Nefeli Zafeiri (Greece) and
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) beat Steffi Lao and Juliana Vidal 6-3 in the second doubles match and
Anastasiya Salenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) knocked off Laila Leist-Alston and Blanca Salas Cruz 7-5 at number one doubles.
Quincy evened the match at 1-1 as Leist-Alston rallied to defeat Zafeiri 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 at in the first singles match. After that it was all Flyers as they won the next five matches to secure the victory. Smith defeated Vidal in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at number three singles, Salenko knocked off Lao 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 singles action, Resich won at number five singles over Ismaslova 6-4, 6-1,
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) beat Salas Cruz 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) in the fourth singles match and Hills swept Martinez 6-0, 6-1 in the finals singles competition.
Lewis returns to the courts next Friday (Feb. 18) hosting Michigan Tech at 8:30 a.m. at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill.
