ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – A pair of wins from
Sage Hills (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) wasn't enough enough for the Lewis University women's tennis team in a 7-2 loss at the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon. The Flyers drop to 3-1 while the Maroons move to 2-1.
Hills beat Eugenia Lee in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 10-at No. 6 singles and teamed with
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) to beat Miranda Yuan and Cara O'Flaherty 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles,
Anastasiya Salenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) fell to Sylwia Mikos 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 2-6 in the No. 1 singles match.
Nefeli Zafeiri (Greece) lost to Shianna Guo 5-7, 2-6 at No. 2 singles,
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) won the opening set 7-5 over Claudia Ng but Ng won the final two sets 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) won the opening set of her match 7-5 over Nicloe Geller but lost the final two 6-7 (6-8) and 5-7 in No. 4 singles play.
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) dropped a three-set match against Yuan 6-3, 1-6, 7-10 in the final singles match.
In doubles, Lewis' number one team of Smith and Salenko lost to Mikos and Guo 8-4 and its team of Zafeiri and Reisch fell to Lee and Ng 8-2 in the second doubles match.
The Flyers return to the courts on Friday (Feb. 25) as they travel to Canton, Ohio, to take on Walsh at 5 p.m. (CST).
