NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Lewis University's women's tennis team defeated Walsh 6-1 on Friday evening at the North Canton Raquet Club in North Canton, Ohio. The Flyers improve to 4-1 on the season while the Cavaliers drop to 6-4.
Walsh took the first point of the dual as it won two of the three doubles matches. Shantala Uzcategui and Nicole Beidacki knocked off
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) and
Nefeli Zafeiri (Greece) 7-5 at No. 2 doubles and Carla Padberg and Isabella Sanchez beat
Sage Hills (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) and
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. Lewis' lone doubles win came in the No. 1 doubles contest as
Anastasiya Salenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) beat Risako Umekuni and Alexa Gamborino 6-2.
The Flyers swept the six singles matches as Salenko defeated Umekuni in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Zafeiri knocked off Uzcategui 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, Smith beat Beidacki 6-1, 6-1 in No. 3 singles action,
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) defeated Gamborino in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, Reisch knocked off Chiara Wolff 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Hills beat Carla Padberg 6-2, 7-5 in the finals singles match.
Lewis returns to the courts on Saturday as they travel to Tiffin to take on the Dragons.
