HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Jamie Rieger (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) scored three times but it wasn't enough as Lewis' women's lacrosse team fell at Alabama-Huntsville 12-8 on Friday evening at Chargers Park in Huntsville, Ala. The Flyers fall to 2-3 on the year while the Chargers improve to 3-3.
UAH scored the first goal of the contest at the 12:06 mark of the opening quarter as Isadora Springer scored an unassisted goal. Lewis answered less than a minute later as Rieger scored on a free position shot.
The Chargers regained the lead with 8:51 left in the opening stanza as Cara Brown scored the first of her five goals in the contest. The Flyers answered 1:13 later as
Paige Bracey (Apex, N.C./Apex) scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 2-2. Lewis took the lead with 4:47 to go in the frame as Rieger scored her second of the quarter with an assist from
Alyssa Davidson (Geneva, Ill./Geneva). Brown tied the game for UAH with an unassisted goal at the 2:38 mark of the quarter.
The Flyers regained the lead 1:16 into the second quarter as
Emily Meredith (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) scored on a free position shot. The Chargers tied the game with 5:17 to go before halftime as Brown scored her third of the half.
The teams went into the break tied at four.
UAH scored the first three goals of the third quarter to take a 7-4 advantage in the span of three minutes. Rieger scored with 3:26 left in the frame to cut the Charger lead to two heading into the final stanza.
The two sides went back-and-forth over the first six minutes of the final frame and the UAH lead was still two at 10-8 after
Skylar Lucich (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) scored on a free position shot with 9:10 remaining. The Chargers scored the final two goals of the contest as Katie Gerber scored with 8:16 to go and then Katie Williams sealed the victory with a goal at the 1:59 mark.
Rieger led the way for Lewis while Lucich and Meredith added two goals each.
Meltonique Bowen (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan) won three draw controls and caused three turnovers and
Carlie Serritella (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) scooped up seven ground balls.
Brigid Fornek (Lawrenceville, Ga./Grayson) made nine saves in goal.
Lewis returns home next Friday (March 18) to take on Davenport at 4 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.
