ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's 36th ranked men's tennis team bounced back with a 6-1 win over Wheaton at Center Court Athletic Club In Hanover Park, Ill., on Friday afternoon. The Flyers improve to 8-3 while the Thunder drop to 6-4.
Lewis won seven of the nine matches in the contest with two of those coming in doubles play and five in singles action.
The Flyers took the first two doubles matches to win the opening point as their number one team of
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) and
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) defeated Jacob Williams and Joey Geisz 6-1 while its number two squad of
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) beat Tim Steiner and Jack Wenzel 6-4.
Lewis won the first three singles match to clinch the victory. Ramirez Mejia knocked off Cody Ching 6-4, 6-3 in the first singles match, Lusti followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Williams at No. 2 singles and Ambrozic handed Wenzel a 6-3, 6-3 defeat in number three singles action.
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) was the tough luck loser as he dropped his match to Steiner 4-6, 6-4, 10-12 at No. 4 singles.
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) beat Geisz 6-4, 6-4 in the fifth singles competition and
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) knocked off Graham Shelton 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 10-6 in the final singles match.
The Flyers return to the courts on Thursday (March 24) as they take on crosstown rival St. Francis at 12:45 p.m.
