ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's lacrosse team dropped its fourth straight contest with a 17-7 loss to Findlay on Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers drop to 2-5 on the season while the Oilers improve to 1-4.
Findlay scored the first four goals of the contest as Adriana Santucci scored twice in the opening quarter. Lewis halted the run momentarily as
Lindsey Traub (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard High School) scored with 0:24 left in the frame to put the Flyers on the board.
The Oilers added to their lead outscoring Lewis 6-1 in the second stanza to take a 10-2 lead into the break.
Findlay scored three of the first four goals of the third period to extend its lead to 13-3 on a goal from Olivia Alvarado. The Flyers got back-to-back goals from Traub and
Emily Meredith (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) to cut the Oiler lead to 13-5 with 5:09 remaining in the stanza. Findlay scored the final two goals of the quarter to take a 15-5 lead into the final frame.
Danielle Dilorenzo extended the Oiler lead to 11 with a goal 4:42 into the final stanza.
Skylar Lucich (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) scored twice in the span of three minutes to cut the Findlay lead to 16-7 but it wouldn't be enough as Mackenzie Cole scored in the final minute to seal the victory.
Lucich led the way for the Flyers scoring three goals while Traub added a pair. Traub won four draw controls and scooped up four ground balls and
Katelyn Kuzmanko (West Olive, Mich./West Ottawa High School) caused two turnovers.
Cole led the Oilers with four goals in the contest while Santucci, Olivia Alvarado, Liz Zatalava and Kendall Lindell had two goals each. Lindell won six draw controls, Olivia
Bakowski scooped up eight ground balls and Cole and Chloe Nottingham caused two turnovers each.
Lewis is back in action on Friday (March 25) as it travels to Pepper Pike, Ohio to take on Ursuline at 3:30 p.m. (CDT).
