ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's lacrosse got off to a fast start but it wouldn't be enough as it fell to second ranked Indianapolis 19-3 on Saturday afternoon at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers drop to 2-6, 0-1 GLVC while the Greyhounds improve to 9-1, 1-0 GLVC.
Lewis took its first ever lead against the Hounds on
Jamie Rieger's (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) goal less than five minutes into the contest. UIndy came back to score the next two but Riger scored her second of the quarter with 1:43 remaining to knot the game at two heading into the second stanza.
The Hounds dominated the second period scoring eight goals with Quinn Malcolm and Abigail Lagos scoring two apiece.
UIndy extended its run with three straight goals to start the third quarter before
Skylar Lucich (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) scored for Lewis to make it 13-3.
The Hounds scored the final three goals of the quarter and added three more in the final stanza for the final margin.
Rieger led the Flyers with two goals while Lucich added one.
Faith Engle (Marysville, OH/Marysville High School) made a career-high 10 saves in goal.
Malcolm and Lagos led the Greyhounds with six goals apiece.
Lewis continues its homestand on next Friday (April 8) hosting Rockhurst at 6 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.
