LOCKPORT, Ill. – Lewis University's women's tennis team extended its win streak to four with a 6-1 win over St. Francis on Thursday afternoon at Challenge Fitness in Lockport, Ill. The Flyers improve to 8-3 while the Fighting Saints drop to 5-8.
Lewis won all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches in the contest.
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) and
Anastasiya Salenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) opened the contest with a 6-3 win over Denisse Lizano and Kiana Sikich at No. 2 doubles.
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) and
Nefeli Zafeiri (Greece) followed with a 6-1 win over Nikki Christiansen and Gabriella Noa in number one doubles action.
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) and
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) got the better of Yashleen Kheterpal and Maria Kuzminskaya 6-2 in the final doubles match.
Smith defeated Christiansen 6-3, 6-0 at number three singles to open the singles competition. Salenko beat Lizano in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 at No.1 singles, Zafeiri knocked off Noa 6-3, 6-2 in the number two singles match, Sueflohn defeated Sikich 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles contest and Vujanic beat Kuzminskaya 6-3, 6-4 at number four singles. Kheterpal defeated Davis 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) in the final match of the afternoon.
The Flyers are scheduled to return to the courts next Tuesday (March 29) as they host Cardinal Stritch at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex at 1 p.m.
