ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's tennis team won its fifth straight match defeating Cardinal Stritch 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Vaughn Athletic Center in Aurora, Ill. The Flyers improve to 9-3 while the Wolves drop to 1-8.
Lewis took the opening point of the match by winning two of the three doubles contest. Emerson Banning and Noor Goyvaerts knocked off
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) and
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) 6-4 at number two doubles to open the contest but the Flyers came back as
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) and
Nefeli Zafeiri (Greece) defeated Aspasia Katsouda and Kissmel Cedano in a tiebreak 7-6 (8-6) while
Anastasiya Salenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) and
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) won their match by default.
Lewis won all four singles matches in the dual with the other two being won by default. Smith opened the singles portion of the match with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Goyvaerts, Zafeiri followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Banning, Salenko defeated Katsouda 6-3, 6-1 and Reisch won 6-3, 6-4 against A.M. Matea. Vujanic and Sueflohn each won their matches by default.
The Flyers open GLVC play this Saturday as they travel to Indianapolis to take on the sixth ranked Greyhounds at the UIndy Tennis Center in Indianapolis at 10 a.m. (CDT).
