ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's track and field team opened the outdoor portion of its schedule with a second place finish on Saturday at the Missouri S&T Miner Invitational at Allgood-Bailey Stadium in Rolla, Mo. The Flyers finished the meet with 128 points and finished behind the host Miners who scored 261.5 points.
Lewis won six events and had a pair of runners up finishes.
The Flyers scored 23 points in the 100 meters with Angelo Vassilakis and
Reese Kocanda (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) finishing first and second while
Andrew Mykulanych (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) and
Zach Olenek (Algonquin, Ill./St. Edward Central Catholic) were sixth and seventh. Vassilakis posted a time of 10.78 seconds while Kocanda finished at 10.85 seconds. Mykulanych touched the line at 11.24 seconds and Olenek came in at 11.56 seconds.
Lewis picked up 17 points in the 200 meters with Kocanda posting the winning time of 22.03 seconds.
Will DeBolt (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) was fifth at 22.73 seconds,
Jacoby Jones (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) finished seventh at 23.22 seconds and
Sami Alzoubi (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg HS) was eighth at 23.69 seconds.
The Flyers added 21 points with four top eight finishes in the 400 meters. Jones won the race with a time of 49.97 seconds while DeBolt was third at 50.65 seconds,
AJ Smith (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Silver Creek) finished sixth at 52.25 seconds and Dillon Pottschmidt was seventh in a time of 52.27 seconds.
Connor Wagner (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) was the winner in both the 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles. He had a time of 14.78 seconds in the 110 hurdles and 54.77 seconds in the 400 hurdles.
Austin Rockaitis (Tinley Park, IL/Lincoln-Way East HS) was third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.20.
Justin Rivers (Bolingbrook, IL/) was the runner-up in the high jump clearing the bar at 1.95 meters (6'4.75").
Kevin Cousins (Mishawaka, IN/Saint Joseph HS) finished third in the pole vault clearing the bar at a height of 4.30 meters (14'1.25").
Olenek and
Keegan Zack (Watseka, Ill./Watseka Community) were first and third in the long jump. Olenek won the event with a leap of 6.95 meters (22'9.75") while Zack's best jump was 6.77 meters (22'2.5").
Gyasi Boisson (Trinidad and Tobago/) was fifth in the shot put with a heave of 13.25 meters (43'5.75") while
Zyaire Shermon (/) came in eighth in the discus with a toss of 38.98 meters (127'11").
Lewis returns to the track next Friday and Saturday (April 1-2) as it competes in the Joey Haines Invite hosted by Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
