No. 12 Lewis Men’s Volleyball Swept By No. 11 Loyola Chicago

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's volleyball team had its three-match home winning streak snapped with a straight sets loss to No. 11 Loyola Chicago on Saturday evening at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers fall to 12-10, 4-6 MIVA while the Ramblers improve to 14-7, 8-2 MIVA.

Lewis fell behind 8-1 to start the match as LUC hit .458 in the opening set and led by as many as eight points in the frame. The Flyers never got closer than six the rest of the stanza as the Ramblers went onto win the opener 25-18.

Loyola jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the middle frame and never allowed Lewis to get closer than two points on its way to a 25-17 set victory and a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The Ramblers hit .444 for the stanza while holding the Flyers to a .115 hitting percentage.

The final set was the closest of the night with 15 ties and seven lead changes. Lewis led by as many as two points in the frame and were two points away from forcing a fourth set but Loyola rallied with back-to-back points to even the stanza at 23 on a kill from Parker Van Buren.

Max Roquet (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) gave the Flyers a 24-23 lead but it would be their final lead of the set as the Ramblers scored the final three points of the match to complete the sweep with a 26-24 set win.

Lewis hit .222 in the contest with 31 kills against 13 errors in 81 chances and were led by Roquet with eight kills while Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) added six kills. Kevin Kauling (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished with 23 assists and Christian Prayer (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) had six digs.

Loyola had an attack percentage of .365 with 42 kills against 11 errors in 85 swings. Van Buren had a match-high 13 kills while Cole Schlothauer finished with 12 kills. Garret Zolg finished with 33 assists and 10 digs.

The Flyers hit the road for the final time in the regular season next weekend as they head to Ohio State and Ball State. Lewis will take on the Buckeyes next Thursday (March 31) at 6 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
