ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's 45th ranked men's tennis team was edged by Cardinal Stritch 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon at the Vaughn Athletic Center in Aurora, Ill. The Flyers drop to 9-4 on the season while the Wolves improve to 3-5.
Cardinal Stritch swept the doubles matches to win the opening point of the contest. Sam Kaplan and Andrin Zuellig knocked off
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) and
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) 6-0 in the number three doubles contest, Daniel Vishnick and Jasper Schaadt defeated
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) and
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) 6-2 at number one doubles and Mike Delebois and Danail Banov beat
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) 6-2 in the final doubles competition.
Ambrozic extended his singles winning streak to nine with a straight sets win over Zuellig 6-3, 6-4 in the third singles match to improve to 12-1 on the year.
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) extended his winning streak to five with a 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 win over Alejandro Martinez in the number five singles match and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) beat Delebois in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
Vishnick handed Ramirez Mejia a 6-4, 6-4 loss in the first singles match, Banov beat Trifunovic 6-3, 6-3 and Kaplan defeated Zoranovic 6-1, 6-0 in the final singles competition.
Lewis begins GLVC play this Saturday as it travels to Indianapolis to take on the eighth ranked Greyhounds at the UIndy Tennis Center in Indianapolis at 10 a.m. (CDT).
