HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Lewis University men's tennis team defeated West Liberty 4-1 Monday (March 7) in a nonconference contest. The Flyers improve to 5-2 on the season, while West Liberty falls to 7-1.
The Flyers took the doubles point by winning both matches that finished.
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) and
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) defeated Nevio Dux and Anton Schulz 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) and
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) took down Isfandiyor Makhumudov and Derek Roehner 6-3 at No. 3.
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/)Â led 5-4 at No. 2 doubles before the match was stopped.
In singles, the Flyers got wins from Ramirez Mejia 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 over Moritz Erpel at No. 1, Lusti 6-1, 6-2 over Schulz at No. 2 and Ambrozic 6-2, 6-4 over Gianluca Gerndt at No. 3. Makhumudov picked up a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win over Trifunovic for West Liberty. Wierzbicki was down 4-2 in the second set after losing 6-4 in the first set at No. 5 before it stopped, while Zoranovic lost the first set 7-6 before his match stopped.
Lewis is back on the courts Tuesday when it faces Ashland at 2:30 p.m.
