HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Lewis University men's tennis team defeated Lake Superior State 4-0 Wednesday (March 9) in a nonconference match. The Flyers move to 7-2 on the season, while the Lakers fall to 3-5.
Lewis earned the doubles point, getting wins from the No. 1 tandem of
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) and
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) 6-3 over Juho Kantola and Harris Irfan Ul Haq and the No. 2 team of
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/), who beat Diego Penz and Xavier VicentNavarro 6-0. The No. 3 team ov
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) and
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) fell to Krishan Taneka and Aaron Osmond 6-2.
In singles the Flyers picked up wins from Ramirez Mejia at No. 1, who beat Kantola 4-6, 6-4, 13-11, Lusti at No. 2, who beat VicentNavarro 6-2, 6-4 and Ambrozic, who defeated Taneja 6-4, 6-0. Trifunovic was up 6-1, 1-0 in his unfinished match at No. 4, while Wierzbicki was up 3-1 at No. 5 singles in the first set.
The Flyers finish their South Carolina trip Friday with matches against Barton College at 7:30 a.m. and Benedict College at 3:30 p.m.
