SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Lewis University men's tennis team defeated Illinois Springfield 4-3 Sunday (April 10) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match. The Flyers move to 11-6 overall, 1-2 in the GLVC, while the Prairie Stars fall to 6-8 overall, 0-3 in the GLVC.
The Flyers earned the doubles point as
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) and
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) defeated Jonsson and Menno Servaes 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, while
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) beat Oscar Toro and Nick Revin 7-5 at No. 2. The third doubles team of
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) and
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) were trailing Tomas Martinez and and Matthew Lapsley 6-5 before the Flyers earned the point.
In singles it was Wierzbicki who earned the match point at No. 5 singles with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win over Rafa Rojas. Other winners were Ambrozic 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 over Jonsson and Trifunovic 6-0, 0-6, 6-4 over Revin at No. 4.Â
Ramirez Mejia fell to Menno 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1, Lusti lost 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 2 and Zoranovic lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.
Lewis hosts Maryville Friday at 2 p.m.
