ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's 65th ranked men's tennis team picked up its second straight win with a 4-1 victory over No. 73 Maryville on Friday afternoon at the Vaughn Athletic Center in Aurora, Ill. The Flyers improve to 12-6, 2-2 GLVC while the Saints fall to 7-5, 2-1 GLVC.
Lewis won two of the three doubles matches to win the opening point of the match. The team of
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) and
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) beat the team of Yann Frezouls and om Schmitt 6-1 in the first doubles match. In the second doubles contest it was
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) beating Mario Aleksic and Sebastian Trigosso 6-4. In the finals doubles match the duo of Jack Beuttell-Triggs and Jose Hernandez knocked off
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) and
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) 6-1.
Lewis won three of the four singles matches that were completed to clinch the victory. Aleksic beat Ramirez Mejia 6-4, 6-4 in the first singles match. Lusti put the Flyers on top 2-1 rallying for a 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 win over Beuttell-Triggs in the second singles contest. Ambrozic continued his strong play with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Trigosso and Trifunovic handed Hernandez a 7-5, 6-2 win to seal the win.
Lewis hosts Lindenwood on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on the Lewis University campus.
