SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Lewis University women's tennis team defeated Illinois Springfield 4-0 Sunday (April 10) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match. The Flyers improve to 12-4 overall, 2-1 in the GLVC, while UIS falls to 6-8 overall, 1-2 in the GLVC.
The Flyers earned the doubles point with wins from
Nefeli Zafeiri (Greece) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) 7-5 at No. 1 doubles over Sina Skjelstad and Neha Mokhasi and
Anastasiya Salenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) and
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) 6-2 at No. 2 doubles over Carmen Llopis Fabra and Franca Bucco.
In singles Salenko won at No. 1 6-3, 6-1 over Skjelstad, Zafeiri won 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 over Llopis Fabra and Smith won 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) won her first set 6-4 at No. 4 in her unfinished match, while Reisch was up 5-0 in her unfinished match at No. 5 singles.
Lewis will look to keep its streak going Friday (April 15) when it plays host to Maryville at 2 p.m.
