Lewis Women’s Lacrosse Falls At Quincy

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's lacrosse team began its three-game road trip with a 13-9 loss at Quincy on Thursday afternoon at Quincy Stadium in Quincy, Ill. The Flyers drop to 3-8, 1-3 GLVC while the Hawks improve to 5-7, 1-3 GLVC.

Lewis got off to a great start scoring 1:15 into the contest on Skylar Lucich's (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) goal from Meltonique Bowen (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan). Quincy scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead but the Flyers got a goal with 4:42 left in the opening frame from Jamie Rieger (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) to cut the Hawk lead to 3-2 at the end of the quarter.

Quincy extended its lead back to early in the second quarter as Danielle Robinson scored her second of the game. Lewis tied the game on back-to-back goals from Carlie Serritella (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) and Emily Meredith (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) with 9:04 left in the stanza. The Hawks regained the lead less than a minute later on an unassisted goal from Josephina Szmanda. The Flyers tied the game shortly before halftime on Lucich's second goal of the contest.

The third quarter was all Quincy as it scored the first six goals of the frame with four of those coming from Robinson. Lewis cut the deficit to five on Sydney Able's (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) goal with 1:40 left in the quarter.

Able scored her second of the contest 3:55 into the final quarter to cut the Hawk lead to 11-7 but Robinson added two more goals to give Quincy back its six goal lead. The Flyers scored twice in the final two minutes but it wouldn't be enough as the Hawks hung on for the win.

Lewis outshot the Hawks 33-20 in the contest including 26-16 in shots on goal. Lucich, Serritella and Able had two goals apiece to lead the Flyers. Bowen won four draw controls, Lucich and Bowen scooped up two ground balls apiece.

The Flyers continue their three-game road trip on Saturday as they travel to St. Louis to take on Maryville at 10 a.m.
