AURORA, Ill. - The No. 67 Lewis University women's tennis team defeated Lindenwood 6-0 Saturday (April 16) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at the Vaughn Tennis Center. The Flyers move to 13-5 overall, 3-2 in the GLVC, while the Lions drop to 5-6 overall, 1-2 in the GLVC.
Lewis earned the doubles point, winning two of three matches. The No. 1 team of
Nefeli Zafeiri (Greece) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) beat Fernanda Poblete and Tran Trang 7-5, while the No. 2 team of
Anastasiya Salenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) and
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) beat Claire Martin and Minna Kahn 6-4. The No. 3 team of
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) fell to Natalia Cordero and Juliana Kulczynski 6-4.
In singles, Salenko defeated Martin 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, Zafeiri beat Trang 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, Smith beat Boblete 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 at No. 3, Vujanic defeated Cordero 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 4 and
Sage Hills (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) took down Paula Sostres 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6. Reisch and Kulczynski split sets at No. 5.
Lewis steps outside of the GLVC Wednesday with a trop to Allendale, Mich. to take on Grand Valley State at 9 a.m.
