ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's lacrosse team second half rally came up short in its 15-10 loss to Rockhurst on Saturday morning at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers fall to 7-4, 1-2 GLVC while the Hawks improve to 6-3, 3-0 GLVC.
Rockhurst came out firing scoring the first five goals of the contest with Ricky Bloom scoring two of those while Sam Lindahl, Alec Heflin and Jake Fisher had one each.
Lewis got on the board with 6:52 left in the opening quarter as
Evan Clement (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) scored from
Drew Kask (Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) for his 16th goal of the season.
The Hawks scored all four goals in the second stanza with Heflin, Lindahl, Grant Brunsvold and Brooks Hanson all scoring.
Rockhurst extended its lead to as many as nine at the start of the third quarter as Lindahl scored a one minute in to make it 10-1.
The Flyers chipped away at the lead scoring the next four goals with two coming from
Baden Boyenko (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada/St. Joseph) while Kask and
Jack Stone (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) added one each.
The Hawks scored the final goal of the quarter as Heflin scored from John Myran to give Rockhurst an 11-6 lead heading into the final frame.
The Hawks scored four of the first six goals in the final period to extend their lead to 15-7 after a goal from Heflin. Lewis scored three times in the final 2:28 to cut the margin to 15-10 as Boyenko, Clement and
Xan Brouillet (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) each scored.
The Flyers outshot Rockhurst 37-33 in the contest but were outshot 26-21 in shots on goal. Boyenko led Lewis with four goals while Clement and Stone added two apiece. The Flyers forced six turnovers in the contest and scooped up 23 ground balls.
Lewis returns to action next Saturday as it travels to St. Charles, Mo., to take on No. 10 Lindenwood at 1 p.m.
