Lewis Women’s Lacrosse Falls to McKendree

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's lacrosse team fell at McKendree 20-5 on Friday evening at Leemon Field in Lebanon, Ill. The Flyers drop to 4-9, 2-4 GLVC while the Bearcats improve to 8-7, 4-2 GLVC.

Lewis scored the first goal of the game as Lindsey Traub (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard High School) scored 1:40 into the contest. McKendree dominated the rest of the quarter scoring eight times. Sydney Tieman scored four of those goals while Kat Albrecht added two.

The Bearcats scored the first two goals in the second frame to extend its run to 10. The Flyers got back-to-back goals from Traub and Emily Meredith (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) to cut the McKendree lead to seven. The Bearcats scored the final two goals of the half in the span of 0:35 late in the quarter to take a 12-3 lead into the half.

McKendree continued to control the game scoring the first five goals of the third stanza to extend its lead to 17-3. Lewis got a goal late in the quarter as Jamie Rieger (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) scored on a free position shot with 0:02 left.

Ashley Larson (Dayton, Minn./Champlain Park) opened the scoring in the final stanza with her first goal of the season. The Bearcats scored the final three goals of the contest for the final margin.

The Flyers finished the contest with 16 shots including 13 on goal. They won eight draw controls, caused three turnovers and scooped up seven ground balls. Traub led the way with two goals. Rieger scooped up three ground balls and Traub and Rieger won two draw controls apiece.

Tiemann and Albrecht led McKendree with six goals apiece while Oriana Johnson added four goals in the contest.

Lewis hosts No. 7 Lindenwood on Sunday in its season finale at 3 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.
