ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's tennis team swept McKendree 7-0 for its second straight win on Saturday at Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, Ill. The Flyers improve to 11-4, 1-1 GLVC while the Bearcats drop to 6-7, 0-3 GLVC.
Lewis won all three doubles matches as its number one team of
Nefeli Zafeiri (Greece) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) defeated Camilla Fonseca and Viola Cipriani 6-2.
Anastasiya Salenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) and
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) beat Rhyan Cook and Mariana Caicedo Mora 6-3 and the team of
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) handed Emily Kettering and Maria Salomao a 6-1 loss.
In singles action it was Salenko beating Cipriani in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, Zafeiri defeated Fonseca 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 at number two singles, Smith won over Salomao 6-0, 6-2 in the third singles competition. Vujanic knocked off Cook 7-5, 6-3 at number four singles and it was Reisch defeating Mora 6-4, 6-1 and Sueflohn beating Kettering 6-2, 6-1.
The Flyers are back in action on Sunday afternoon as they take on Illinois Springfield at 1 p.m.
